Both of the kids decided to put Student Council as their first choice this year. Katelyn was a bit wishy-washy as she really wanted to go for Drama but since she is already a "Hollywood Kid", she decided that being a student officer would be just as fun. Jacob wanted to be the 3rd grade representative and Katelyn wanted to be the Spirit Commissioner. They created posters that hung on the school walls during the month and prepared speeches that were televised during the morning announcements. Both of them made the preliminary vote to be in the top 6. All third graders voted on their own "Senator" and Jacob won. He was pretty excited and we are proud of his accomplishment.
Since Katelyn is in the 5th grade and was trying for a council position that would represent and lead the entire school, she had to campaign a little bit harder. She handed out stickers, pencils, smarties, and glowsticks with cute little sayings reminding students to vote for her.

We were in Disneyland when the votes and results came in but Sara called and left a message announcing that Katelyn had won President and her friend, Mia, had won secretary. She was surprised and excited. Of course, Clark was thrilled and proud that "the legacy continues" and told Jake that the pressure is on for him in two years. We are also proud of Katelyn's hard work and know that she will do a great job as President.
We were able to attend the inauguration ceremony where the students swore an oath to lead the school with good intent and responsibility. It was quite the ceremony and and the Nevada Attorney General, Catherine Cortez Masto, presided and led the children in their promise.
Third Grade Senator, Jacob Stuart
Katelyn gave the first of many welcome speeches that she will give throughout the year to begin the inauguration ceremony. She wasn't nervous at all!
